Seasons and
Training
Classic-level teams
under 15 years of age play a fall and spring season. If chosen for a
team, the player is expected to play BOTH the fall and spring
seasons. Players 15 years and older play one season: Girls play in
the fall and boys play in the spring. Each season lasts about eight
weeks with most games scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays. Teams
play between 7-11 games per season. A team may also attend any
number of tournaments during its season, both in and out of state.
Players are required to attend a minimum of two 90-minute team
training sessions a week and are encouraged to attend an additional
weekly skills session. Failure to attend team practices can result
in loss of playing time. There is no guaranteed amount of playing
time in Classic.
Players are expected to attend a TCYSA team camp prior to the
opening of their season.
The Classic division also provides winter and summer training
opportunities for all players.
Competitive
Tryouts
Any player from North
Carolina is welcome to participate in competitive tryouts scheduled
in May and early June at the Sara Lee Soccer Complex. During
tryouts, players are evaluated by the Association’s Director of
Coaching, assistant directors of coaching, staff coaches, and
coaches from Wake Forest University’s soccer programs. Tryouts
typically consist of two 90-minute sessions on consecutive days.
Players must attend both sessions.
How the
Association Forms Teams
Existing teams may
select new players. Returning players are not protected by their
current team status and must regain the position on the team through
the tryout process. New teams may be added each year providing
enough qualified players are available to form a competitive team.
Likewise, TCYSA Classic division may not form a team if an age group
does not provide enough players to form a competitive team.
Size of Team
Rosters
Teams for players 12
and under may carry up to 14 players per team. Teams for players 13
and older may carry up to 18 players. The final decision on the size
of the roster is determined by the Director of Coaching. Players may
be added to a roster at any time during the course of the fall or
spring season as determined by the DOC.
Cost to Play
The cost to play
Classic-level soccer ranges from $850-$1250. These fees vary based
on the size of a team’s roster, the number of seasons the team
plays, and the number of tournaments in which a team elects to play.
This does not include the cost of a uniform, team camp, or personal
travel expenses for families. |
